This is a bittersweet time to launch a new media endeavor. While I’ve felt terrible about the hardships that COVID-19 unleashed across society, I haven’t had time to be upset. As a small business owner and a mother of three, I, like so many others, had to rethink how my firm would survive and thrive in a post-pandemic world.
Is there a right to terminate a lease based on COVID-19?
There is no ‘right’ to cancel a lease based on COVID-19 conditions, assuming the lease does not have a force majeure provision (which would allow the lease to be terminated under certain negotiated Acts of God that thwart a tenant’s performance); most leases do not.
